GXS 2010 Customer Awards Program Winners
GXS is pleased to announce the winners of our 2010 Customer Awards Program. The program recognizes those companies using GXS’s products and services to become Active Businesses.
Nominees for the 2010 GXS Active Business Awards were evaluated by a panel of judges that included Rob Guerriere, Editor of Global Trade Best Practices; Clive Longbottom, Head of Research at Quocirca; and Chris Beall, GXS’s Senior Vice President of Product Innovation. Representing a variety of industry verticals and geographic markets, the winners have demonstrated best practices in B2B e-commerce and B2B outsourcing to become Active Businesses.
The 2010 Customer Award Winners are:
GXS Active Business Award for Demand Responsiveness and Agility
Dr Pepper Snapple chose to implement GXS Price & Promotion Synchronization (PPS) as a base for what the company now refers to as VORTEX (Vendor Optimized Retail Transaction Exchange)―a robust, three-tier price collection, cleansing, aggregation and delivery service. Today, PPS/VORTEX has over 400 users, representing over 1,200 bottling locations actively using the system. The platform is designed to be easy to use and perform effectively under large loads at peak times, such as big box retailer promotions and base pricing refresh periods.Through the use of this solution, Dr Pepper Snapple has made it quicker and easier for their bottlers to submit pricing, and has vastly improved overall accuracy and collection rates. Their new system has allowed them to process over 9 million pricing records to their largest trading partner, Walmart.

GXS Active Business Award for Proactive Trading Partner Engagement
Rutronik is a leading European distributor to high-tech industries in different sectors, notably automotive, consumer and telecommunications. The company implemented GXS’s Trading Grid Messaging Service, allowing them to work closely with geographically-diverse customers and suppliers, including those in China, Mexico and southern Africa. They have around 250 core customers with whom they exchange about 30 million EDI messages each year. A base of 150 suppliers generates an additional 14 million messages, including orders, invoices, despatch notices, price catalogues, stock information and forecast requirements.

GXS Active Business Award for Proactive Trading Partner Engagement
China Mobile decided to implement GXS Enterprise Gateway as the backbone of their new B2B integration platform. This provided a best-in-class B2B integration platform to both the internal users of their Oracle ERP system and the 170 trading partners that would have to interact with the platform on a daily basis. The B2B integration platform’s seamless connectivity with the Oracle ERP system ensured that information feeding the ERP system was of much higher quality. This meant that the amount of external transactions requiring rework before entering their ERP systems had been greatly reduced, hence introducing significant cost savings. China Mobile has aspirations to expand into other countries around the world, and working with a global B2B partner such as GXS allows China Mobile to move towards achieving this goal.

GXS Active Business Award for Supply Chain Visibility
Yanmar deployed the GXS Active Logistics solution in order to gain real-time visibility into their global logistics operations from Japan to their global network of distributors and dealers across North America, Europe and Asia. Yanmar established this connectivity to their global partners within a relatively short six-month period. There was no need to hire specialized resources for the project, the time and cost associated with development, implementation, operation and maintenance was significantly reduced. The company strongly believes that improved customer satisfaction has helped to improve customer loyalty, which, long term, will lead to the sale of new diesel engines. Overall, GXS Active Logistics has helped Yanmar to improve the efficiency of their aftermarket spare parts supply chain. This, in turn, has allowed them to gain a significant competitive advantage over other diesel engine manufacturers on the market.

GXS Active Business Award for Environmental Sustainability
Through the utilization of GXS Managed Services, Novartis enhanced their EDI capabilities, reduced paper use and decreased their total cost of ownership. The company’s electronic transactions processed annually (about 1.7 million) represent the equivalent of about 16.8 tons of paper. That’s nearly 17 tons of paper NOT used each year at their US location. Paper is just one aspect of the cost of doing business. Where reductions can be realized, efficiencies can also be realized in the areas of transportation, resulting in significant decreases in fuel consumption, as well as the improvements in company image and relationships for becoming ‘greener’ and more aware of the environment around the world. -

GXS Active Business Award for Supply Chain Data Accuracy
Scotts chose GXS Product Information Management (PIM) Supplier Version, a GXS Product Master Data Management (Product MDM) solution, to address their data synchronization needs. The solution enabled Scotts to import product information to create a centralized item master file, validate against industry standards and trading partner requirements, and publish via a GDSN-certified data pool. Instead of disparate systems and information being manually keyed and rekeyed, Scotts could now utilize an intuitive web-based interface to easily create, edit and share information with their retail partners. -

GXS Active Business Award for Environmental Sustainability
Kraft implemented GXS’s Active Invoices with Compliance solution as a way to address paper reduction and generate legally-compliant electronic invoices for European countries. They can now perform virtually any portion of their supply chain ordering process electronically. The company eliminated an astounding 26.3 metric tons of paper usage in one year using GXS solutions. If they had used paper, their business transactions would require the use of 95 tons of wood, or the equivalent of about 661 trees; and the consumption of 1,088 million BTUs of energy, which is the equivalent of the energy used by 12 homes each year. In addition, Kraft has saved 161,930 lbs (81 tons) CO2 equivalent, which is the amount of CO2 emitted by approximately 15 cars annually; they prevented pollution of 539,362 gallons of water—nearly the equivalent to maintaining an Olympic-sized swimming pool; and prevented the creation of 64,380 pounds of solid waste, comparable to 2.3 full garbage trucks.
