Eight O’Clock Coffee Outsources B2B Transactions to GXS
GXS Advantage Services to Simplify Increasingly Diverse B2B Customer Trading Requirements

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – March 1, 2005
GXS, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced that Eight O’Clock Coffee, a leading coffee producer, has selected GXS Managed Services B2B outsourcing solutions to rapidly comply with customer mandates for B2B transactions and order processing. GXS Managed Services is a key component within the GXS Advantage Services portfolio, a continuum of offerings that provide comprehensive community, professional and managed outsourcing services supporting global B2B deployments. GXS Managed Services help provide immediate business value and seamless delivery of B2B transactions between Eight O’Clock Coffee and customers in a variety of formats and protocols.

In November 2003, Eight O’Clock Coffee was spun off from The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P), creating a stand-alone entity for the first time since the company’s inception in 1859. In the midst of separating its technology infrastructure from A&P, one of Eight O’Clock Coffee’s most important customers issued a requirement for AS2 B2B communications to begin in a matter of weeks. Eight O’Clock Coffee faced losing a significant amount of revenue if it did not meet this requirement, and quickly realized that the company was unable to do so with existing internal resources.

Eight O’Clock Coffee sought the expertise of GXS Advantage Services and its B2B outsourcing solutions to meet this pressing customer mandate. Leveraging GXS Advantage Services, Eight O’Clock Coffee was able to solve the dilemma by utilizing the GXS Trading Grid to establish B2B communications and transactions within the customer’s mandated timeframe. This not only avoided the organization’s potential revenue losses, but also enhanced an important customer relationship.

Eight O’Clock Coffee has also deployed GXS Advantage Services to establish e-business trading relationships with 25 other customers using a variety of different protocols and data formats, including EDI, AS2 and FTP. GXS provides Eight O’Clock Coffee the means to manage day-to-day business with companies by allowing the exchange of vital business documents, such as purchase orders and invoices, electronically using a customer’s preferred form of order submission. This helps Eight O’Clock Coffee streamline and strengthen the company’s relationships with its trading partners and enables it to focus on its core competency of producing coffee of distinctive quality and outstanding value.

“GXS Advantage Services provide e-business capabilities far beyond what Eight O’Clock Coffee could maintain internally. As a mid-size company focused on producing and delivering great coffee, the B2B experience and expertise that GXS brings to our business has made them a trusted partner in meeting our increasingly demanding customer requirements,” said Paul Lawer, CIO, Eight O’Clock Coffee.

GXS has over 16 years of experience and more than 100 clients currently deploying GXS Advantage Services around the world. GXS Advantage Services increase a business’ flexibility and free up internal resources to focus on core business objectives. GXS B2B outsourcing solution customers can also take advantage of GXS’ expertise in trading community ramping, management and customer service.

“Eight O’Clock Coffee is a great example of GXS Advantage Services ability to provide rapid time-to-value for our customers,” said Steve Keifer, senior director of solutions and product marketing at GXS. “By implementing GXS B2B outsourcing solutions, Eight O’Clock Coffee was able to comply with technology mandates from one of its most important customers in a matter of weeks. They now have the ability to expand their trading community by seamlessly interfacing with over 30,000 trading partners worldwide through the GXS Trading Grid.”

As a part of the GXS Trading GridSM platform, GXS Advantage Services offer the technical infrastructure to conduct a global B2B program, including data translation, transaction visibility, systems administration, and robust reporting capabilities. In addition, GXS Advantage Services provide customers the B2B expertise to deliver world-class B2B program management, trading community management, and customer support. The GXS Trading Grid enables customers to automate transactions with their trading community while shielding companies from rapidly changing standards, eliminating manual and duplicative efforts and enabling a higher level of process integration and business intelligence.

About Eight O’Clock Coffee
Eight O’Clock Coffee is an American business and product success story of a private-label store brand that became a national brand. First sold in bulk in 1859 when the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. opened its first store, Eight O’Clock is the third ranked national brand. In July 2003, Eight O’Clock Coffee launched a line of ground coffee to complement its top-selling whole-bean lineup. Today, Eight O’Clock Coffee offers ground coffee in blends to match their most popular whole bean varieties — Original, 100% Colombian, French Roast, Hazlenut and Original Decaffeinated. The Eight O’Clock name was determined after the company conducted a survey to identify what time of day most coffee was consumed; the most popular time was Eight O’Clock, both a.m. and p.m. For more information about Eight O’Clock Coffee visit http://www.eightoclock.com/.
