Anglo Beef Processors Turns to GXS to Automate Order Processing with Key Customers
Supplier of Premium Meat Products to Jamie Oliver, Royal Valley, Scotch Prime and Herdsman Chooses GXS Trading Grid®
LONDON and GAITHERSBURG, Md. — September 3, 2008 — GXS, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced that one of the largest beef companies in Europe, Anglo Beef Processors (ABP), has deployed GXS Trading Grid® to automate trading with its business customers. ABP works in a complex business environment with a high volume of customer orders and needed an ultra-reliable and flexible solution for its ongoing electronic trading requirements. The company needed a solution that could help it efficiently manage orders with accuracy and speed for quick dispatch to customers. It chose GXS to support this initiative. ABP supplies the UK’s thriving food retail market, delivering frozen and fresh beef, pork and lamb products to retailers and wholesalers. ABP slaughters and processes in excess of 300,000 cattle per year in the UK and supplies many UK supermarkets with their beef products, including premium ranges like Jamie Oliver, Royal Valley, Scotch Prime and Herdsman. In a typical day, the company might receive 10 orders from one of its supermarket customers, with each order containing around 100 different product SKUs. It is vital for ABP’s continued business success that these in-bound orders are filled quickly and dispatched within 24 hours. “The best thing about GXS Trading Grid is its absolute reliability,” commented Richard Baran, group IT infrastructure manager at ABP. “It does not require constant maintenance which frees up a substantial amount of our time for other important projects. GXS Trading Grid is tightly integrated with our back-end ERP system so we can process orders and raise invoices efficiently. At ABP, our mission is to be the preferred partner of multiple retailers, manufacturers and caterers in the supply of fresh and frozen meat and meat-based products. We see GXS as a key component that allows us to deliver on this mission.” ABP uses GXS Trading Grid Messaging Service, the global, Internet-based transaction management service that enables companies to trade business documents electronically in a secure, fast and reliable fashion. Trading Grid Messaging Service enables companies like ABP to exchange documents using both the latest XML standards as well as traditional EDI document standards. It can be accessed via the Internet or the GXS private network, enabling ABP to maximize the use of today’s latest B2B Internet commerce transactions. In addition, GXS Trading Grid is helping ABP achieve key business goals, including improved inventory management, efficient replenishment and procurement. By supporting electronic trade through various standards and communication protocols, such as AS2 (which ABP uses with ASDA), EDI, XML and other industry-specific standards, Trading Grid Messaging Service is a simple and effective way to electronically manage business documents. “ABP has invested heavily in state of the art retail packaging plants to give the company some of the best equipment and machinery in the industry. The company also knows that, in the price sensitive retail sector, prices must remain competitive,” said Bryan Larkin, director of consumer products marketing at GXS. “Smart investment in electronic trading is enabling ABP to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety while at the same time optimizing efficiency and stripping out unnecessary cost.” GXS Trading Grid is a global B2B e-commerce and integration services platform that supports the creation and adoption of on-demand supply chain management solutions for companies of any size. As the world’s largest electronic business community, GXS Trading Grid is used by more than 30,000 customers to exchange goods and services, gain visibility into global logistics operations and to synchronize product data. Trading Grid helps customers automate global trading communities by shielding complexity from rapidly changing standards, eliminating manual and duplicative processes and enabling the highest levels of B2B integration and collaboration.
