11 Day Mission through Desert Delivers School Supplies to Remote Regions
Sunbury, United Kingdom — March 22, 2012 — GXSTM, a leading provider of B2B integration services, today announced that GXS-sponsored Team 253 has successfully completed the 15th edition of the Morocco 4L Trophy. The charity rally aims to provide education for 15,000 children in safe learning environments. Teams travel for 11 days, covering 6,000 km of desert terrain, to deliver tons of school equipment to children in remote parts of North Africa.
Led by Maxime Romantif, a 3rd year student at À l’École d’Ingenieur EIGSI La Rochelle, and Sybille Nuiry, a 4th year student at À l’Universite Pharmacie de Lyon, Team 253 finished the journey and delivered the equipment to its destination. Romantif and Nuiry kept track of their journey during the rally with updated news and pictures on their blog and Facebook page.
Romantif commented, “Team 253 returned without experiencing any major problems. Our 4L Renault traveled 5,872 km in extreme conditions with only a clogged carburetor in ten days of racing. We want to thank GXS for its support. Our adventure will remain etched forever in our memories.”
The 4L Trophy works in partnership with the Children of the Desert foundation in Paris. Started in 1997, with just three entrants, the charity has grown significantly with more than 1,200 entrants delivering supplies across Morocco this year. Teams were permitted to start the challenge from either Paris or Bordeaux and were armed with minimal equipment, including a rally guide with daily desert camp checkpoints, a compass for orientation and a map of Morocco. Before leaving the starting gates, 82 tons of school supplies were distributed among the teams, including computers, sports equipment, textbooks and stationary.
“Every day at GXS, we are tasked with connecting companies – customers and suppliers from different parts of the world,” commented Denise Oakley, director of International Marketing at GXS. “It is admirable that two students have taken time out of their studies to experience the logistical ‘supply-chain’ challenge of getting these items to the right place at the right time. We have been happy to support them and help a good cause.”
